The C&O Historical Society has undertaken an exciting publications project called Chesapeake & Ohio History Series Books.

This series will consist of a book issued every quarter. Each book will treat an aspect of C&O history, equipment, structures, etc., more extensively than we could provide in our C&O magazine. Topics for these books may be continuations or expansions of magazine articles, or entirely new subjects not covered before.

2024 Book Series, Volume #45-#48

1st Quarter

BK-25-501 Vol 49: Pere Marquette Stations by T. W. Dixon
Reproductions of many PM passenger and combination stations, many inherited from predecessor railroads. Original company engineering department dimensioned drawings plus excellent photos. Ideal for historians and great for modelers. PM fans will love this book.

2nd Quarter

BK-25-502 Vol 50:  C&O Mainline Bridges, by Al Kresse
Details, photos, drawings, data on bridges of the old C&O main line in Virginia (Richmond-Charlottesville-Clifton Forge). Another important book about bridges; interesting for modelers especially.

3rd Quarter

BK-25-503 Vol 51: C&O’s Raceland Car Shop, by Charles Bogart
History of this massive freight car-building facility at Raceland (Russell), Ky. 1930-1970s. Includes details on many of its best freight car products in addition to the facility itself. Many great official photos.

4th Quarter Book

BK-25-504 Vol 52: C&O’s Huntington Shops, by Jack Yarborough
Details and history about C&O’s main locomotive shops from the 1870s until recent times. The shop is still used by CSX today! Great steam era and early diesel photos, and much about how this shop served as the mechanical heart of C&O maintenance.
