N Scale US Dept. of the Interior - Bureau of Mines 2-pk Heavyweight Sleepers from
Micro-Trains Line
The Bureau of Mines operated a small fleet of cars around the country to conduct
inspections, accident relief and investigation and training. The early wood cars (c. 1910) were
assigned to specific mining regions of the country, a practice that changed when replaced.
The steel cars, such as those in this set, were built to replace earlier wood cars in 1919 and
served through the golden years of American Railroading, traveling anywhere needed. At
least one of the fleet of cars is known to still exist, being located at the Museum of Alaska
Transportation & Industry.
