C&O Diagrams of Steam Ship " Virginia"

This set of diagrams shows the accommodations and mechanical spaces for the C&O's Steam Ferry Virginia which operated between the C&O's passenger station/Pier at Newport News and its station and pier at Brooke Ave., in Norfolk, Va. The ship carried passengers to and from Norfolk, on the south side of the Hampton Roads body of
water, connecting with all C&O trains. This allowed C&O to tap into the large population in Norfolk, otherwise too distant, and in the period without good roads or bridges, inaccessible for their trains, which terminated in the less
populous Newport News. The boat was in service until the early 1950s, when it was replaced by bus connections, as road transportation in the area improved.
