Coal mines often wanted more cars for loading than the C&O could supply, so the railway established a department that allocated cars based on the size and historical production rates of each mine. This pamphlet shows the rating for each mine served by the C&O. It also shows the actual number of cars each mine ordered, how many the C&O supplied, and how many the mine actually loaded and sent out during the month of August 1953.
