This book is a complete revision of the book first published in 1987. If you have the first book, as most C&O fans do, I think you will want this second one.
The first edition went through 29 printings between 1987 and 2012, and was issued in 46,000+ copies making it one of the most, if not the most, popular railroad-themed book of all time!
The book is still the same dimensions as the first edition, but it has a completely new layout and design using color design throughout. Likewise, as many of the reproduced advertisements and calendar art as possible are in color.
Overall the whole story of Chessie is told from 1933 up to the present, but it is in a much more pleasing appearance. Also, several new features have been added bringing the story up to 2025. Likewise, a larger attention has been given to the “classic” era of Chessie advertising in the 1930s.
The story of Chessie is one of the enduring and endearing aspects of railroading and of the C&O.
