Chicago & North Western Freight Trains

This is a more obscure find that we have advertised recently. The late Pat Dorin was one of the most prolific railroad history/fan authors of all time. He did this book in 2003 and it hasn’t been available for some years.
Hardbound, 112 pages, 200 illustrations, 100-lb glossy paper.

The book is a railfan’s overview of C&NW freight train equipment and operations in the post-WWII era up to its merger into Union Pacific in 1995. Often thought of as just a “granger” line carrying mainly agricultural products, it was also a major carrier of coal, iron ore, and general freight. It was an important connection for UP long before that road absorbed it.

This is a well-printed book with a wide variety of photos depicting all aspects of C&NW freight operations in the last 20 years of its existence as a separate operation.
