Booklet. This extensive Thurmond collection starts with the 48-page booklet “The Chesapeake & Ohio in Thurmond, WV”. This booklet contains an article by Dale Ernest, who was born and raised in Thurmond, and in later life became a modeler and an amateur historian of the region. Extracts from the Historic American Engineering Record (HAER) report on its survey of Thurmond in 1988. HAER is an agency of the National Park Service which records engineering landmarks and sites that are being preserved or are in danger of being destroyed and an article by Roy Long, which tells of his experiences as an extra C&O telegraph operator working at Thurmond.

Photographs. The photograph section contains all 59 images from this booklet. These images have been digitized from the original negatives and cataloged on this CD allowing you to print high-resolution photos using your own equipment. The photograph section also contains 41 images, which were not published in the original booklet bringing the total to 100 high-resolution images of Thurmond.

Documents. Next we ve included a selection of documents. ICC Documents (valuation field notes from the original 1916 survey describing the structures then In place at Thurmond), two Magazine Ads, a National Park Service Pamphlet "Teaching with Historic Places", used to by educators and interpreters using Thurmond as an example of an Appalachian coal boomtown.

Drawings. Section four of our “History of the C&O Railway in Thurmond, WV” CD ROM contains 92 high-resolution scans of drawings relative to the history of this fascinating region. Drawing categories include:
