BOOK REVIEW:

This new Morning Sun color book is by Kurt Reisweber, one of our favorite authors. He is a long-time C&OHS member who has done books for us as well. He has a whole series of books he had authored for Morning Sun. This is the latest:

This is a good photographic appreciation of the years following the merger of Southern Railway into Norfolk Southern. The photos are superb, as usual, but there is also a good deal of background material and very interesting and fulsome captions by Kurt. His books always give a good historical perspective and not just a nice “slide show” of good photos.

Maps help any railroad book and Kurt uses several to illustrate the discussions in this book.  The photos are, as usual simply excellent in every regard.

There are nine sections that divide the regions as well as a chapter on locomotives. Additionally, Eastern Shore, Norfolk & Va. Beach, Chesapeake & Albemarle, Carolina Costal, East Carolina, and Aberdeen, Carolina & Rockfish railroads are covered in separate sections.

If you have an interest in more modern railroading and in the area covered, this is about as good a photo coverage as you could find, along with some very good background and history, cogently organized.
