The New All Time C&O Steam
Locomotive Roster!
This 78 page booklet lists every single C&O steam locomotive and cross-references them all by every number they held on the C&O roster. This goes far beyond the more general references in C&O Power or C&O Concise History, and allows the user to find the basic data on any C&O locomotive as long as a number is known. We have found it to be an indispensable help in research.
As you may know, C&O renumbered all its steam locomotives in 1924-25, a system of numbers that lasted to the end. Other engines went through as many as four or five different numbers in their service lives, while other had only one. As long as any one of these numbers is known it can be located in this list.
Once the locomotive entry is found the basic data of number(s), builder & date built, wheel-arrangement, C&O class, builder’s construction number, cylinder diameter & stroke, weight on drivers, and disposition (if known). The disposition column will reference renumbering as well as the "subsequent numbers" column. The sample image will show how this works.
We have found this to be an extraordinarily useful reference, and now make it available to anyone interested in C&O steam locomotive information.
As usual, it is available in hard copy or download.
