Great Railroad Tunnels of North America By William Lowell Putnam

Softbound, 181 pages, illus. An interesting book that gives the broad perspective about railroad tunneling in the U. S. and Canada. It is written in a nontechnical way for the ordinary person and covers the subject very well. C&O's Great Bend and Blue Ridge tunnels are discussed. Of course, the other great tunnels are treated, including Hoosac, Moffat, Flathead, and Cascade. It is interesting to note that C&O's Blue Ridge Tunnel was the longest on the continent in 1854, and is still the sixth longest. A fine book to add to our own C&O Tunnels by J. C. Watson in your library. BK-14-783
