C&O Clifton Forge Elevation Sign Embroidered Cap
C&O developed (along with the other Van Sweringen railroads) a set of standard station signs for use on all four roads (C&O, NKP, PM, Erie). These signs had the well-known block letters on plain white boards with raised black frames, mounted on the station end, platform shed, or on a post when no station building was at the location. However, six locations on C&O were given a special version of the standard sign that added the state name and altitude. We have no information on why this was done.
