Originally published in 2004 and long out-of-print, this book brings together both B&W and color photos in the era from when the Seaboard Air Line and the Atlantic Coast Line merged to become Seaboard Coast Line, starting in 1967. It also covers the later period after SCL merged with Louisville & Nashville, Clinchfield, and others to become Family Lines. Of course, Family Lines/Seaboard System merged with Chessie System to become most of today's CSX system.
The late Bill Griffin was an executive with the RF&P and long-time supporter of the C&OHS. He specialized in the railroads that connected with RF&P and was probably the preeminent authority on RF&P itself. In this book he bridges the period between the end of the independent southeastern railroads and the creation of CSX.
The book has over 250 color and B&W pictures of highest quality, covering all aspects of equipment used by these lines in the two decades covered. Many passenger and freight car diagrams and portrait shots are included for the modeler interest. Motive power include diagrams as well as good photos and data. Timetable reprints, track charts, system maps, and other illustrations add to the completeness and appeal of the book.
Two chapters cover the important New York-Florida passenger service that SCL continued to operate right up until Amtrak day, including the fabulous Florida Special. Includes maps, charts, color information for modelers, and some interesting background text.
