The Atlantic and Danville Railway company: the Railroad of Southside Virginia
This book very well done it was written by the late Bill Griffin. Bill, in addition to being the leading expert on the RF&P, loved the A&D and wrote this book, published in 2006. It has been out of print and unavailable for several years. We have found a small supply and can offer them now at special pricing as we have been doing recently with books found in the warehouse.
The A&D was an interesting railway that ran from Norfolk along Southside Virginia to Danville. It was incorporated in 1882 and parts of it still operate under Norfolk Southern. During most of its life, 1899-1949 it was leased and operated by the Southern Railway, then by the N&W which reorganized it as the Norfolk, Franklin & Danville.
Griffin wrote a very literate text that makes this interesting short line railroad understandable to most anyone. It was part of the network that served the southern part of Virginia with terminal at the great Hampton Roads port area through Portsmouth and Norfolk.
The book is hardbound and has 112 pages printed on high quality glossy 100-pound paper with over 150 photos, diagrams, maps, and illustrations. It has a 16-page color section as well.
