American Railroads – Their Growth and Development
This 32-page booklet was published by the Association of American Railroads in 1951 as a publicity piece. It gives a summary history of the American railroad construction with typical publicity type photos and language about the railroads of 1950. – The attraction for us is that there are eight maps that show the American railroad network at various years starting in 1840 and bringing it up to 1950. – This gives a good visual appreciation of just how the railroads were built over time. Recommended for the maps if not for the fluffy text. - Tom Dixon
