C&O History Magazine, C&O's Homemade Hudson's Special Edition

16 page, softbound magazine telling the full history of the Chesapeake & Ohio's on streamlined steam locomotive, its L-1 class 4-6-4s.

These were rebuilt from 1926-era 4-6-2s in 1946-47 and given a colorful orange and stainless steel cowl in keeping with the streamlining ideas that had been so prevalent since the 1930s.

They were intended for use on trains connecting with The Chessie, which was to be a new ultra-luxury coach train power by futuristic Steam-Turbine-Electric locomotive. But it never came to be so these engines saw service on regular C&O trains until replaced by diesels in 1953.
