Chesapeake & Ohio Lightweight Passenger Cars, 1946-1972

By H. H. Harwood, Jr.

This 32-page pamphlet was the second publication issued by the C&OHS other than its monthly Newsletter/magazine. It was published in 1973.

H. H. Harwood was a noted railfan of the era and wrote extensively. In addition to this description of C&O’s lightweight passenger cars built both by the Budd Company and by Pullman-Standard, he authored a very good description of the C&O’s never-operated ultra-luxury coach train, The Chessie, in the July, 1968 issue of Trains magazine.

This pamphlet lists all the cars and gives some background on the order. It shows status of the fleet as of its publication date in 1973.

For additional information about these cars, go to catalog No. BK-21-501 on this site for details about Society’s most recent publication covering the Pullman-Standard cars. For additional C&O passenger service information, consult catalog No. BK-21-718.
