The Greenbrier Express Booklet

This is a 32-page 8-1/2x5-1/2-nch booklet published in connection with the inauguration of the new “Greenbrier Express” tourist passenger train operated by Cass Scenic Railroad. The Durbin & Greenbrier Valley Railroad was contracted by the state of West Virginia to operate the Cass Scenic Railroad. It has now refurbished the old C&O Greenbrier Branch trackage between Cass and Durbin over the past several years and this year began running regular trains on the 15-mile line that was washed out in 1985. The train consists of motive power drawn from the CSRR’s roster of geared steam locomotives and heritage heavyweight passenger cars.

The booklet features history and background on the C&O line 1902-1979, and background about the Cass Scenic operation since 1963. There are chapters on each type of geared logging engine with photos and drawings (Shay, Climax, and Heisler types). Maps show the logging lines out of Cass as well as the whole C&O Greenbrier Branch line. Color covers feature the new Greenbrier Express trains. Excellent, compact, inexpensive compendium on the new train and the whole backgrounded and history surrounding it.
