West Virginia Logging Railroads by Willam E Warden
This book was first published a hardbound edition by TLC Publshing (Tom Dixon) in 1993 and it went through 7 printings as one of the most popular books on this subject ever.
Quarrier Press in Charleston, WV has now brought the book after it was out of print for a decade. Their edition is softbound, but the original data was used so the illustrations are sharp and undegraded.
This book gives a very cogent overview of logging in West Virginia and then it concentrates with full chapters dealing with each of the last and biggest of the logging lines: Mower Lumber Co. (Cass); Elk River Coal & Lumber Co.: Meadow River Lumber Co. (Rainelle: Cherry River Boom & Lumber Co.; Meadow River Lumber Co. (Rainelle); Cherry River Boom & Lumber Co.; and Ely-Thomas Lumber Co.
Of course, two of these (Mower and Meadow River) we on the C&O and big customers.
There are over 150 great illustrations, maps of each line, and logs of background date Probably the best thing ever done on this subject.
Softbound, 112 pages.
