Climax No. 9 and The Moore Keppel Survivors by Gerry Futej
This is a heavily illustrated history of Moore, Keppel & Company’s Climax locomotive No. 6. Purchased new in 1919, it hauled logs and coal in obscurity in Randolph County, WV for 40 years. Rescued by the Cass Scenic Railroad in 1971, it endured rain, snow, fire and neglect until selected for restoration in 2001. More then 300 behind the scenes progress photos document the milestones of its 18 year restoration, which culminated in its successful return to service as Climax No 9 and its Centennial Anniversary Celebration at Cass in 2019. Five other Moore, Keppel Survivors are included.
