Complete history of C&O’s fleet of E7 and E8 passenger diesels; roster data, numbering/renumbering, etc., as well as mechanical details. Photos and drawings showing all varieties of painting & lettering styles. Operational data on how engines initially were assigned train-by-train, and how this evolved over the years with declining passenger service. Lavishly illustrated with mostly unpublished photos, including many from the C&O’s official publicity files, showing the engines on trains in many locations across the system. Color photos mostly by famous C&O photographer Gene Huddleston illustrate the colorful blue-yellow-gray units on their likewise flashy trains, up to the end of service in 1971. C&O’s E-units also saw service on B&O trains after the two railroads affiliated in 1963, especially in the latter few years of passenger service. Great for C&O fans, passenger train buffs, and modelers.
