C&O Depot Painting Standards
This set of four drawings shows the Chesapeake & Ohio Railway’s standards for painting wooden and brick depot buildings.
Drawing S-269 – P-1 dated 3/30/1923 shows the wood frame station standard using the “Colonial Buff” color. This was the light yellow that has been used on several C&O stations restored in the last 20 years. Drawing S-269-C, which is the same as above, but updated in 1931 and 1938, shows the frame station painted in the three-tone gray scheme that apparently remained standard up to the end.
Drawings S-269-A and 269-0 show the painting for brick depot buildings in 1923 and revised to 1934 respectively.
It should be noted that in the post-1940 era some stations were painted in white, but no standard drawing for this survives.
