This pamphlet reprints two C&O rosters that show the numbers, capacity, etc., of steam locomotive tenders and the individual locomotives to which they were assigned, by type. (See 05-09-299 for assignment by individual tender serial number over time.) These roster, from 1936 and 1940, show tender assignments, classification, and capacities by locomotive class, type, and number. Added to these official C&O rosters are copies from C&O mechanical diagram books that show a variety of tender types as applied to locomotives. This is not a comprehensive but rather a sampling of tender drawings. (For a more comprehensive set of locomotive diagrams, see 05-7-023.) Another appendix to this pamphlet is an article on tender classification and assignment which first appeared in the June 1975 issue of the Chesapeake & Ohio Historical Newsletter.
