Passenger Train Cars Lightweight Coaches 1610-1668 Photos
This album contains builder photos and in-service photos of 1600 series lightweight coaches built by Pullman-Standard to re-equip all C&O mailine passenger trains in 1950. Featuring the new yello-blue-stainless steel scheme, the cars were used until the end of the C&O passenger operations and a few were bought by Amtrak, though they lasted in Amtrak service only a few years. The most remember of C&O passenger cars today, wit their cozy compartments separated at center-car with a double partition with curved aisle, these cars were the top of the line in their day.
In later years the stainless steel fluted sides were replaced with smooth sides painted gray to blend with the stainless on other cars.
