MD-25-964 Boxcar, C&O, 1950 PS-1 Boxcar with yellow lettering

$26.95

MD-25-964 Boxcar, C&O, 1950 PS-1 Boxcar with yellow lettering, HO Scale

In the early 1950’s, the C&O received 1500 PS-1 boxcars numbered 16,000-17,499. The first 1,500, of what would become a 2,000 car order, numbers 16000-17499, are similar to the 15000-15999 Pullman-Standard PS-1 40-foot 6-inch, 50-ton box cars built in 1948. The new cars had wider, eight-foot Youngstown side doors, versus the earlier, six-foot Superior side doors. These cars featured a new paint scheme designed to personify the C&O’s focus on modernization. This order of cars was delivered with the early C&O for Progress herald and the new modernistic “standard-width” Futura lettering, in yellow. Like the 15000-series cars, the bodies were painted a more “Pennsy-Tuscan” Red or Brown rather than the C&O “old” Freight Car Brown. At the time of their delivery, these cars made up approximately 10% of the C&O’s entire boxcar fleet. These special run kits are produced by Accurail and there are three road numbers to choose from : 16322, 16924, 16829.
