The diesel information which follows is divided into sections governed by the type service for the diesel locomotives. The data given tor each class locomotive are broken into groups consisting ot General, Eleotrioal and Meohanical Information. These data are alphabetically
listed for each of the respective groups.
The index in the front of the book lists the section number and page number for each class diesel locomotive. A supplementary index (Appendix A) lists the item number for each separate item of data. This item number is the same for any class locomotive.
Thus, through the use of the two indices, any item contained herein may be found quickly. For example, to find the total weight of Looomotive No. 5536, the index at the front shows that this locomotive is in Section III; Appendix A lists weights as Item 18. Looking under Item 18 in Section III, the total weight of Locomotive No. 5536 is found to be 360,700 Ibs. If the total weight for Locomotive No. 7000 were desired, it would be found in Seotion V. Here again the weight would be listed under Item 18.
